The Big Beach Clean Up.......
On Tuesday the 4th of February primary 4, 5 , 6 and 7 took part in a big beach clean on Tyrella beach. The clean up was organised by Down District Council. Transport was provided by Ulster Bus. Due to the recent stormy weather there was a lot of litter on the beach and the children had a hard task a head of them. The children were split into teams of two and were provided with gloves, litter pickers and bags to pack all the litter they recovered.
Along side the children were representatives of Down District Council, Ulster Bus and McDonalds who provided the children with doughnuts……mmmmmmmmm doughnuts, which really helped lift the spirits of the litter picking team. The council also provided a tractor and trailer on which the full bags of litter were loaded.
The children also held a competition on who could find the most interesting piece of litter. With entries ranging from shot gun shells to fishermen’s gloves the eventual winner was Sorcha Smith with a kettle!
After two hours of constant picking the beach was spotless, so clean could eat your dinner of it… so we did.. well… we had a snack and a welcome cup of coffee for the grown ups and Mr Mc Veigh.
The school wishes to thank everyone who was involved in such a worthwhile venture.
