A Royal Visit

On Tuesday 31st January the staff from St.Joseph’s and a group of children were invited to Ballykinlar camp to meet Prince Edward.

It was a wonderful experience dancing for Prince Edward. We danced in the camp, Ella danced a solo jig and Sinead, Siofra, us (Leah and Rosie) all danced together, we danced to “I’ll tell me Ma.” Prince Edward came over and talked to us before we left.  He asked us how long we had been dancing for and said he truly enjoyed our dance.

Leah said: “I was scared I was probably the most nervous because I was the first to dance. Everyone started clapping along to the music, when I looked at the Prince he had a smile on his face, I thought to myself, I must be doing well so I was feeling very proud of myself.

Rosie said “I was getting into my position but was getting very nervous, I could see my mum standing beside the Prince and giving me a look of reassurance but I couldn’t believe I was dancing for a Prince, I was thinking what if I mess up or slip all this was going through my mind and I was interrupted by the music starting.”

We were all nervous about dancing for royalty, especially because it was the Queen’s son!

Here are some of the dancer’s thoughts….

Ella: “It was really good and exciting, I really enjoyed dancing.”

Sinead: “It was really exciting and I enjoyed it very much.”

Leah: “I thought dancing for the Prince was a wonderful experience and I enjoyed talking to him.”

Rosie: “It was a great experience, we found out who we were dancing for a couple of days before. I thought we were going to Finland with the teachers!”
