The Eco council goes from strength to strength.
Saint Joseph’s first entered the Eco school project in 2010 and in only two short years the school has came a very long way. The first aim of the council was to develop a wildlife garden and with the help of the Credit Union this aim was achieved in the summer of 2010. This is an area in which all classes have planted flowers and vegetables and have responsibility for their own section of the garden.
The school has also examined various other areas of the Eco school project and has been awarded the silver medal certificate. At present the Eco School Council is involved in an initiative to cut down on the amount of paper used within the school.
This year the highlight of the council was attending the annual Eco School Conference which was held in The Canal Court in Newry. The children met and listened to many guest speakers and had the opportunity to discuss how we at Saint Josephs’ could raise the standards of environment awareness in our school. It is our intention that we apply for the most cherished green flag within the next few years
