P1/2 Fun at the Farm

Down on the farm

On Tuesday 8th April 2014 Primary one and two made their way to the “Funny Farm” in Castlewellan.

As most of our parents will know, our theme throughout March was ‘The Farm’ and so we decided to have a nice day out on the farm.

We arrived at 10am, we were very excited. The farmer, Alan, met us at the car park with his little dog and showed us into the playground. We played on the slides and the golf course, the bouncy castle and the zip line, the electric cars and the go-karts. We even had a sandpit to play in and a maze to explore.

After some snack and a big drink of juice because we were so thirsty from running around, Alan brought his quad up to the play area. He had 5 cars attached to it. We all got a turn to sit in the cars and go for a drive through the farm. There was a big wet pool of mud and we got splashed. It was a bumpy ride and Alan even turned on a hose to soak us on the way past. We loved the quad ride.

Before lunch we went for a walk around the farm to see what animals we could see. Alan had 4 pot belly pigs. They were black, which was confusing because we always colour our pigs in pink at school. One of the pigs had no name so Alan asked us if we would like to name him. Since it was Joseph’s birthday today we decided we would call the pig Joseph. We fed Joseph some bread and he came very close to us so we could touch him. He wasn’t scared of us.

Next we saw a horse and her baby foal. We were allowed to stroke the horses but Alan told us not to touch her mouth. The horse was very soft and she loved it when we all stroked her.

Next we saw Lamas. Most of us had never seen a Lama before. The white one was called Cloud because he looked like a fluffy cloud in the sky.

Alan went to the field and let the geese out of the field to see us. There was a goat in the field with the geese and Alan said the goat thinks he is a goose. We saw the geese go for a bath and spread their wings to dry off.

After lunch time Alan let us all have another go on the quad ride. Then we played in the park until home time.

We had a funtastic day at the Funny Farm, thank you Farmer Alan.
